How to choose the kitchen hob

There are several types of hobs: gas, in electric glass ceramics or in induction glass ceramic. If you opt for a gas hob, you can choose between stainless steel, painted or glass, to match the kitchen.

Here is some more information about consumption, costs and benefits related to the different hob choices.

Induction hobs

The best performance is given by induction hobs.
Three reasons to choose induction:

  1. Maximum efficiency: The heat is generated directly on the bottom of the pot, without dispersions, thanks to an electromagnetic field. Consumption is optimized by avoiding any waste.
  2. Extreme speed: induction heats the bottom of the pan directly, reducing cooking times. It takes 3 minutes to bring 1 liter of water to the boil.
  3. Ease of cleaning: the hob remains cold and if a liquid escapes there is no risk of it burning or crystallising.

In addition the price of an induction hob today it is comparable to that of a designer hob.
Not being gas, it consumes electricity, so if your meter is 3kW you must opt for an induction hob with limiter. Furthermore, you will have to manage the simultaneous loads of the various appliances in the house, such as an oven, hairdryer, washing machine, etc.

Gas hobs

If you are not yet ready for an induction oven you can opt for one gas hob with direct flame burners. The flame of this new burner comes out of many micro-holes. Instead of touching the pan, the flame should be directed to the bottom of it with a reduction of cooking times and energy of the 20%.
