Hob, some tips for effective cleaning

How many times have you not been able to remove all the dirt from the stove? And how many times, after cleaning, was its surface dull or haloed? To effectively clean any type of hob, you need the right products and the right advice. Here's what!

How to make steel shine

If your hob is made of steel, the first thing to know is that you must not use anything abrasive, i.e. powder detergents and metal scourers. Also remember to avoid products that contain chlorine and to always dry the surface well: if steel remains in contact with water for a long time, it can oxidize. Similarly, we do not recommend products containing chlorine (muriatic acid or bleach) because they could stain and oxidize it irreparably.

To keep the top in good condition, always clean it after each use with a sponge soaked in soap and water or a neutral detergent. How? Rubbing the surface following the direction of the satin finish, and then taking care to rinse thoroughly. For very stubborn oil or grease stains, you can use alcohol-based products or other solvents such as acetone.
To avoid spreading the stain, apply a few drops of the product directly on the area to be treated (so as to dissolve the traces), rubbing with a clean, non-abrasive cloth.

Glass or enamelled tops: sponge and neutral detergent!

If your hob is glass ceramic, you can also use detergents suitable for cleaning glass. If, on the other hand, it is in tempered glass, it is better to prefer soap and water. Again it is best not to use abrasive cleaners and sharp objects.
If you have to deal with encrusted stains, use the special scraper (sold by the best retailers), and never cutlery or steel utensils. Stains from foods rich in sugar such as jams must be cleaned immediately, to prevent them from crystallizing on the hob.
The enamelled hob, on the other hand, can be cleaned with a normal sponge and dishwashing liquid.

Grids, burners and spreaders

To clean the cast iron grates, we recommend cleaning with soapy water and careful drying. They should not be washed in the dishwasher or with acid detergents, cast iron is in fact a highly porous material, and could risk being damaged.
Steel grates also go in the dishwasher because they can't stay wet for long.
Simple soap is also perfect for washing them.

The burners can be cleaned with a neutral detergent or with a specific product for this part of the hob.
The holes of the flame spreaders must be freed from encrustations with a toothpick or leaving them to soak in hot water.
In this case, you can also dissolve a specific product for burners and flame spreaders in the water.
After washing them you must dry them carefully, because they must be perfectly dry to work.
