I use air conditioners even in winter

The conditioner it is an irreplaceable ally during the hot season, but it can rightfully be also used in winter to heat the rooms.

Not only that: with the appropriate precautions, it is able to represent an excellent alternative to the infamous electric heaters but also, under certain conditions, to the classic gas heating, taking advantage of the heat pump of the device to make the temperature in the house milder.

The alternative to radiators

First of all it is good to clarify, to those who have too many expectations in this regard, how things really are when it comes to air conditioners with heat pump: in colder areas, such as Northern Italy or those areas far from the sea where the climate is very harsh during the winter, it is very difficult for air conditioners to replace normal gas heating.

This does not mean that they are useless devices, because turning them on is still a great idea during the mid seasons and when you need a little warmth in a limited environment: air conditioners are usually installed right in the living room or bedroom, and turning them on for some time, without using the boiler, is usually more convenient and less expensive.

Also, the conditioner is a tool that stands out for versatility: it is indeed possible to heat but also dehumidify, which may be sufficient, or at least welcome compared to gas heating, in areas with a high percentage of rainy days.

The revolution of inverter technology

Technology inverters represented a real revolution in the world of air conditioners: until recently, in fact, using the air conditioner to cool or heat meant continuous restarts and deactivations of the compressor, therefore higher consumption and also a shorter life of the appliance; now instead the modulation of heating and cooling is continuous, with the air conditioner using electricity much more efficiently. All with even a greater acoustic comfort.

What is certain is that inverter air conditioners are much more convenient than traditional fan heaters from a few euros which are used to quickly heat a room in the house, and which represent a real threat to one's electricity bill. These devices, in fact, are often at 2000 W, while a good inverter has a steady state consumption of around 300-600 W.

The performance of heat pump air conditioners begins to become less efficient in the presence of particularly cold temperatures, especially if you keep them for a long time and there is one strong humidity. This is because, in addition to the fact that at full capacity it is usually better to turn on the boiler knowing that it will be used continuously in the next few days, the risk is that ice forms on the external elements of the air conditioners, disadvantaging the heat exchange.

In terms of space, an air conditioner of moderate power certainly cannot compete with the capillarity inside a house of gas heating radiators, but equally it can offer a very pleasant temperature in environments of up to 50 square meters.

The rules of use, however, are the same: never create too high a difference in temperature between the outside and the inside, also for health reasons, and above all always switch off the appliance before going to sleep, given that the body temperature rises by itself while you sleep and keeping the air conditioner on can be counterproductive from various points of view.

Furthermore, air conditioners must be kept well: this is why it is a good rule  check its efficiency And periodically clean the filters with soap and water so that there is always clean air in the house.
