Appliances, but how much do they cost us?

There electricity bill is it particularly salty and you can't explain why? One of the central issues concerns the consumption connected to household appliances and, in this sense, it is enough simply to communicate a figure to realize how much they affect.

According to the most up-to-date statistics, for an average family of 4, the annual cost of electricity for domestic appliances is approximately 600 euros – needless to say that, being an average, it can also vary considerably depending on the lifestyle you follow.

In this article, therefore, we will first make an analysis of which appliances consume the most and, then, we will provide you with the 4 golden rules for reducing consumption (without depriving yourself of anything, indeed).

Dear appliances, how much do they cost me?

How much do the appliances we use the most weigh, in terms of consumption? Well, the answer may be somewhat surprising. In fact, we are used to thinking that the electric oven, the hair dryer and the iron are those that have the greatest impact on the electricity bill: we can say with serenity that, despite being household appliances with a high current consumption, they are only used occasionally and therefore the impact is really relative. According to data, a hair dryer costs no more than 10 euros per year (on average) and consumes just 40 kWh per year. THE true energy-absorbing killers they are household appliances that we use for a much longer period of time and 'not occasionally': we are referring, for example, to the refrigerator which, being switched on 24 hours a day for 365 days a year, 'weighs' in the bill about 160 euros per year for an estimated average consumption of about 640 kWh.

Before getting to the advice we intend to provide, we want to underline a further element: many suggestions that can be found online concern practices and lifestyles that have a rather relative impact on bills and consumption. Of course, it is also good to save just a few euros a year, but we need to understand the different extent of the savings possibilities: for example, if we left the cell phone charger plugged in 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, the extra consumption would be just about 70 cents a year.

How to save on your electricity bill: for conscious use of household appliances

  1. Let's start right from refrigerator: it is necessary to analyze the energy class and our advice is to buy (even with a small investment) a class A fridge +++ - for example, if you use a class C one, consumption per year is about 100 euros higher
  2. Very high consumption also as regards the dryer: if the use of the 75% is reduced, it is possible to save even more than 160 euros per year
  3. And now it's time for washing machine: the advice is to use it at a temperature of 30°, which leads to a saving on consumption of this appliance of about the 90% (much more effective even than the 'Eco' programs)
  4. It is no longer the season, but the conditioner: the suggestion (for next summer) is to use it mainly as a dehumidifier, the savings can be up to 75% of usual consumption.
