The correct use of household appliances

A bad habit of use, in the long run, can compromise the proper functioning of your appliances and therefore also your safety. Take advantage of this brief guide to eliminate any incorrect behavior.

Stovetop

– If you have an electric hob, always unplug it before cleaning the plates and avoid using abrasive powders or corrosive substances with any type of hob.
– Always close the gas tap when you go on vacation, even if it's just for a few days.

Oven

– Always use a single outlet: this appliance consumes a lot of energy and connecting it to a multiple with other appliances could cause voltage overloads and short circuits.
– Do not put flammable materials or aluminum on the bottom, as they could overheat and catch fire.
– Do not use the open oven door as a support surface, because it is not calibrated to support other weights.
– Do not use abrasive material to clean the interior as it could damage the surfaces.

Microwave

– Never use it to dry fabrics, paper, spices, flowers, herbs or other combustible materials as they could catch fire.
– Never introduce vacuum-packed or watertight containers (e.g. jam jars) as they could burst.

Dishwasher

– Do not place weight on the open door of the dishwasher: it has been designed to bear only that of the rack loaded with crockery.
– Do not load too many dishes (you would weaken the cleaning action of the water) and do not overdose the detergent (it does not improve washing results).
– Do not leave dirty dishes inside the machine. If you don't want to wash them right away, use the prewash program so that the residue doesn't dry out.
– Remember that cleaning the filter periodically greatly affects the performance of the dishwasher.

Refrigerator

– Never refreeze already defrosted food, even partially: when possible, divide the food into individual portions.
– Do not fill the refrigerator too much, because the cold air would not circulate evenly throughout the compartment.
– Do not introduce foods that are still hot, because cooling them causes greater energy consumption.
– Do not put carbonated drinks in cans and other liquids hermetically sealed in glass containers in the freezer, as they could explode.
