Refrigerators, 9 tips to save

Saving and consuming less with your fridge is very easy. Here are 9 tips for saving energy.

1. Get rid of the old fridge

Old fridges and freezers eat up energy and therefore you should seriously consider buying a new model. Liebherr offers a wide range of appliances in the highest energy efficiency class available today: A+++.

2. Purchase energy-saving equipment

The data on the energy label gives an accurate idea of the energy efficiency of the refrigerator. The more “+” signs after the “A”, the higher the energy efficiency and the lower the consumption.

3. Location makes all the difference

Never place the refrigerator near a heat source (oven, hob, radiator) or in direct sunlight. Whether you have a freestanding or built-in model, your fridge must always have sufficient ventilation so that the compressor does not have to run all the time.

4. It's all about temperature

The ideal temperature is 5°C for the fridge and -18°C for the freezer. In general, for every additional degree of cooling, the electricity consumption increases by 6%. Therefore, if you regulate the temperature well you can save money.

5. Attention! Close the fridge door immediately

Every time you open the fridge door, cold air goes out and warm outside air enters in its place. In order to lower the temperature inside, the refrigerator consumes energy. Avoid opening the door unnecessarily or leaving it open for too long.

6. Let the food defrost in the fridge

For defrosting frozen/frozen foods, use the fridge. Not only do they defrost better, but they further cool the inside of the fridge, reducing the work of the compressor and therefore energy consumption.

7. Never put hot food in the fridge

If you put food in the fridge that is still hot, the interior compartment and the other food will heat up. Always allow hot foods to cool to room temperature before placing them in the fridge.

8. Defrost the freezer compartment

A thick layer of ice in the freezer compartment acts as an insulator and the appliance must consume more energy to cool the interior. Therefore, defrost your freezer regularly. However, appliances with NoFrost technology must never be defrosted!

9. Check the door seal regularly

The rubber insulating gasket prevents heat exchange between the outside air and the fridge. It is important to regularly check the integrity and tightness of the gasket. If not, replace it immediately! Also check that the food in the fridge is not blocking the door from closing.
